Sandy Leong and Gemfields join forces again with new ruby collection

New York-based fine jewellery designer Sandy Leong has introduced a stunning new five-piece collection featuring Gemfields’ Mozambican rubies, with proceeds from sales set to benefit the Gemfields Foundation.

The Sandy Leong x Gemfields ruby pieces were launched last night at an exclusive dinner celebrating the opening of a Sandy Leong pop-up store located in the Four Seasons New York Downtown, from 29 November until 12 December.

Included in the new range are two pairs of sumptuous earrings, two rings and a necklace – all statement-making designs, ideal for the holiday season and beyond. Each piece is crafted from recycled 18k yellow gold and responsibly sourced rubies from Gemfields’ Montepuez mine in Mozambique. The Petite Origin Hoops with Ruby Charms are sold individually or as a pair and glitter with a festive red ruby hanging daintily from the gold hoop; while the Ruby and Diamond Pave Stud Earrings feature a more substantial 2-carat ruby, surrounded by a circle of diamonds. The Ruby Cage Ring boasts a 12-carat cabochon ruby criss-crossed by diamond pave; while the Ruby Halo Ring features an 8-carat ruby encircled by diamond pave. Prices range from 1,700 USD for the Hoop Earrings to 22,000 USD for the Cage Ring.

Earlier in the year Gemfields and Sandy Leong partnered to introduce The Sol Collection, which contributed much-needed donations towards the building of a brand-new primary school in Madagascar. Once again, 10% of the profits from the Leong’s new ruby collection will go towards the Gemfields Foundation – which supports community and conservation projects in sub-Saharan Africa.

Sandy Leong’s business, which recently celebrated its tenth anniversary, is rooted in the designer’s commitment to sustainability and humanitarianism, with children and education an area of particular interest, making her an ideal partner for Gemfields and the Gemfields Foundation. Leong hand-makes each of her pieces in New York, using traditional techniques honed by fine jewellery artisans. “Aside from the fact that Gemfields has the best gemstones in the world, I also love that their company ethos includes engaging with and supporting the local communities in and around where their projects take place,” she says.
