This is the second edition of this prestigious index, promoted by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, and the second consecutive time that MRM has placed an impressive second. This is quite a feat, given the wide field of 48 companies considered, with just 18 of them receiving a distinction.

The prize was awarded in Maputo, at the sixth National Conference on Safety and Health at Work, whose motto is: “a safe and healthy work environment is a fundamental principle and right at work”. It was timed for May, to coincide with the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, which was established in 2003 by the International Labour Organisation to encourage best practice.
MRM’s Head of Corporate Affairs, Raime Raimundo, described the award as “a consequence of the great work being done at both MRM and Gemfields Group level” and a reflection of the commitment that has been made by both the company’s management and its workers to live up to the company motto of “zero harm”. He also praised the Health, Safety and Environment team (HSE) for their tireless work in ensuring that MRM’s 1,400 employees work in a safe, healthy environment.
The winning companies were congratulated by the Minister of Labour and Social Security, Margarida Talapa, for their efforts to promote health and safety at work and for setting a good example to others. “We appeal to the winning companies to remain committed to the prevention of occupational accidents and to sharing their experience with other companies, so we can create and maintain safe and healthy conditions in the workplace,” she urged.
