The ‘Safari Sunset Bloom’ ring is made from 18k gold and features Gemfields Mozambican rubies alongside an amethyst and dark orange-brown diamond, all surrounding a black opal, in a floral shape. The array represents the emotive colours of an African sunset and resembles the beautiful Safari Sunset flower. The ‘Kinee’s Love’ earrings are asymmetrical by design, featuring three Gemfields Mozambican rubies. The hearts are crafted from 18k gold, one resembling the shape of Africa and bleeding a ruby ‘tear’, signifying the destruction of native habitats there. These bleeding hearts make a powerful political statement as well as being exquisitely beautiful. The ‘Purple Ribbon’ sunglasses were designed with an African-inspired colour scheme to complement the pieces of jewellery. They are made from exotic and precious purple-heart wood and gold-plated sterling silver, with UV proof lenses, in a design inspired by the spiral-horned antelope. The oversized lenses enhance the safari-chic look of the shades, which are studded with Gemfields Mozambican rubies alongside amethysts. “I am delighted to collaborate with Gemfields in the Space for Giants initiative,” says founder John-Paul Francis de Lara Pietrus. “I believe in being charitable and am very much against the poaching of animals. Gemfields’ philosophy and responsible mining practices make it the choice for me when I am obtaining rubies and emeralds for my pieces. I really enjoyed rising to the challenge of applying the safari theme to my brand’s Renaissance nature. I am very happy to combine my passion and make an impact.” The world’s first fine jewellery-eyewear house, Francis de Lara pieces are all handmade from almost entirely natural materials in very small batches. Most creations are one-offs, made by a team of two artisans, with almost zero wastage, and all materials are ethically sourced and sustainable. The brand’s aesthetic harks back to the Renaissance era in keeping with the founder’s jewellery roots in Florence.       Click here to view this exciting capsule collection.
