MRM-funded Namanhumbir VTC reopens
On 24 April 2026, the Namanhumbir Vocational Training Centre – funded by MRM and operated by the Mozambican government’s professional training institute, IFPELAC reopened, following a temporary closure due to acts of vandalism in December 2024.
The VTC re-opening marks a new phase in strengthening the technical and vocational skills of young people in Montepuez, in Cabo Delgado Province.
MRM has engaged Field Ready Mozambique, an organisation with experience in labour market needs assessment and skills development for workforce integration, to conduct an in-depth assessment of local needs and incorporate courses that effectively respond to these demands, potentially leading to the creation of new courses.
Alongside traditional courses such as electrical work, construction, metalwork, plumbing, painting and heavy machinery operation, the re-opened VTC now offers a computer course, supported by a newly equipped computer laboratory, complete with 21 computers.
The computer lab also serves students from Wikhupuri Secondary School, built by MRM, which accommodates learners from all villages within the Namanhumbir Administrative Post, thereby improving access to technological resources and the overall quality of education in the area.
This addition is expected to strengthen practical skills and enhance employment prospects for hundreds of young people in the community.
