Set to premiere one-by-one on Gemfields’ website and YouTube channel between now and July – with shorter teasers to appear on social media – these four design-led videos were produced in conjunction with Lambda Films. Wizards in cutting-edge contemporary animation, Lambda Films have used CGI tableaus in 3D and liquid art – pouring a mixture of paint and oil for a stunningly natural visual – as well as expert macro videography to depict the mineral formation process, which is invisible to the human eye. Each film is between one and two minutes long and will delve into a specific topic – responsible sourcing, emeralds, the buying process and rubies – with the aim of both educating and entertaining viewers from all corners of the globe. Accompanied by voiceovers and dramatic music, the films bring the beautiful, microscopic world of coloured gemstones to life. Given our own industry-leading role in responsible sourcing , Gemfields is ideally positioned to lead this project and thrilled to be able to share our learnings from mining emeralds in Zambia  and rubies in Mozambique. Gemfields supports life-changing initiatives for the communities around our mines in three key spheres all brought to life in tableau form: Education - building schools and providing scholarships; Livelihoods - creating farming associations- two of them run by women; and Health - providing mobile and static health clinics. Also reflected in the film is our work with conservation partners to protect Africa’s wildlife and biodiversity , sustainability (minimising the impact of mining through back filling, re-planting and the avoidance of harmful chemicals) and one of our core principles: Transparency. As a young, dynamic company, Gemfields is always looking for ways to do things differently, embracing emerging talents and exploring the world of art. This video project is a natural extension of previous successful artistic collaborations and will hopefully pave the way for many more. We are delighted to be marking World Earth Day on 22nd April by kicking off the series with the launch of the first film on responsible sourcing!
