A glittering launch for The Bridge collection in Dubai

The Donna Hourani x Gemfields ‘The Bridge’ capsule collection is a collaboration between Dubai-based, Lebanese-born jewellery designer Hourani and Gemfields, a world-leading miner and marketer of responsibly sourced coloured gemstones.


The Bridge collection is a love song to emeralds, with each of the 11 imaginatively designed pieces featuring one or more Gemfields’ Zambian emeralds. The overarching theme of the collection is love. The reception to mark its launch – held at a beautiful private villa in Dubai’s Jumeirah, in mid-December – was fittingly glamorous and attended by top-tier press, and influencers.

The event marked the first of its kind for Gemfields in this market, and the first collaboration with a local jewellery designer. To mark the occasion, there was an emerald heart-shaped photo wall, for guests to pose in front of wearing the designs and also an illustrator on hand to sketch them adorned with the jewels, making for a very personalised experience.

The power and serenity of emeralds was a key talking point, with attendees taken through the individual story of each piece, as well as the story of how the exciting collaboration was born. Each guest left with the Emerald coffee table book as a thank-you gift, along with a mini bouquet and digital printout of the illustrator’s sketch.


It is no wonder that emeralds took centre stage as the “Hero” gem of this collection, as they have held a lifelong fascination for Hourani and were the driving force behind her launching her eponymous collection in 2016. The Bridge collection takes its name from one of Hourani’s favourite quotes, by Rumi: “Love is the bridge between you and everything.”

Emerald-green is, fittingly, the colour of the heart chakra and a Gemfields’ Zambian emerald serves as a bridge of love between the wearer, represented by a lab-grown diamond, and a personal goal or achievement, represented by another coloured gem, in each of the collection’s 11 pieces. “To Glory”, “To Self-Love” and “To Womanhood” are just a few of the inspiring and upbeat designs that were unveiled to excited guests in Dubai.
