Kagem hands over Chapula Trades Training Institute
On Saturday 9 May 2026, the Minister of Technology and Science, Hon. Felix Mutati, MP, on behalf of President Hakainde Hichilema, was the guest of honour at the official handover of the Chapula Trades Training Institute in Lufwanyama District, from Kagem to the Ministry of Technology and Science for administration by the Technical Education, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training Authority and run by Northern Technical College. The institute is earmarked to be established as Chapula Polytechnic.
Constructed with a contribution in excess of USD 2.5 million from Kagem, the institute comprises classrooms, administrative offices, a workshop, staff housing and student hostels. Kagem has also provided computers for offices and a computer and projector per classroom, as well as furnishings for the offices and hostels.
The Chapula Trades Training Institute will offer hands-on training in trades such as carpentry, plumbing, heavy duty earth-moving equipment repairs, and other courses, thereby enhancing employability and livelihoods among young people in Lufwanyama.
