On the 6th May, Montepuez Ruby Mining was honoured to host a visit by His Excellency, Mr. Filipe J Nyusi, the President of Mozambique. The President was in attendance to officially open three new primary schools built by MRM in and around our concession.

On arriving at Nanhune school, the local community performed a traditional welcome ceremony, after which the President unveiled a commemorative plaque and planted a tree as a lasting reminder of his visit. The schools were then officially handed over to the President by Gemfields CEO, Ian Harebottle.

After the inauguration of the primary schools, the President made a speech thanking MRM for building the schools stating that they will go down in history as community projects that will contribute to the development of Mozambique. The President also stated that the teachers quarters & and playgrounds built as part of the schools are model examples of how future public infrastructure should be built.

The President then extended his visit by formally inaugurating the newly upgraded processing plant. He was given a tour of the plant and explained the impact and improvements it will have on ruby production.
