Kagem Wins “Best Mine in Safety” for the Second Consecutive Year
Kagem has been awarded “Best Mine in Safety” for the second year running, reinforcing its leadership in safety excellence within Zambia’s mining industry.
On 30 October 2025, Kagem received the “Best Mine in Safety” award for the second year in a row, recognising its exemplary safety culture and commitment to a zero-harm working environment.
Kagem was honoured with the “Best Mine in Safety” award by the Permanent Secretary at Zambia’s Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development for the second consecutive year, strengthening its position as a safety benchmark within the mining sector.
The achievement was announced during the 9th National Conference on Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment, hosted by the Zambia Chamber of Mines in Ndola.
Speaking at the award ceremony, the Chairman of the Board at Kagem, Dr Sixtus Mulenga, said: “This achievement reaffirms our commitment to safeguarding the health and safety of every individual at our mine site and operations, and is testament to our culture of striving for continuous improvement. We do not take such milestones lightly nor for granted in our industry, as the health and safety of our employees is our highest priority.”
The Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development, Dr Hapenga M. Kabeta, said: “I wish to reiterate the government’s commitment in fostering a safe, sustainable, and technologically driven mining and industrial sector. We will continue to support initiatives that promote the best in health, safety, and environment management while ensuring that we strengthen regulatory frameworks and enhance collaboration among stakeholders.”
Kagem’s zero-injury record continues to set the standard for responsible mining, surpassing 11.5 million Lost Time Injury-free hours to date. The mine’s ongoing investment in training, technology, and safety systems reflects its long-term commitment to a “zero harm” culture, reinforcing its reputation as a leader in safe mining practices.
