Kagem Celebrates Over 10 Million Lost Time Injury-Free Hours
Kagem achieves a major milestone in safety as it receives national recognition for outstanding workplace health and safety performance.
Kagem Mining Limited has been awarded for exceeding 10 million Lost Time Injury-free hours, highlighting its deep-rooted commitment to worker safety, responsible mining practices, and operational excellence.
Kagem has recorded 10,098,176 Lost Time Injury (LTI)-free hours, an achievement that has been recognised by Zambia’s Mines Safety Department through a prestigious safety award. A “lost time injury” refers to any workplace incident causing an employee to miss productive work time. Held in Kitwe, the award ceremony was attended by mining industry leaders, government officials, and local stakeholders. In speeches delivered at the event, representatives from the Mines Safety Department, Chamber of Mines, and local government praised Kagem for setting a strong example in prioritising employee well-being and operational integrity.
Lufwanyama District Commissioner, Mr Justin Mwalikwa, said: “Allow me to extend my congratulations to Kagem for consistently placing emphasis on occupational health and safety. Your commitment to creating a safer working environment is commendable and sets a positive example within the mining sector.”
This award follows previous recognitions, including the “Best Mine in Safety” and the Ministry of Mines Permanent Secretary’s Award. Kagem’s Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) department continues to lead in advancing a zero-harm approach in the Zambian mining sector.
