KPMG Mozambique have named Gemfields-owned Montepuez Ruby Mining (MRM) three times in their 19th “Top 100 Companies of Mozambique” survey. MRM, which is 75% owned by Gemfields with local company Mwiriti, is located in one of the most significant recently-discovered ruby deposits in the world, in the Cabo Delgado Province in northern Mozambique. After an analysis of 2016’s economic trends and its impact on major operating companies, Gemfields are proud to announce that MRM was recognised as:
  • 26th best company overall;
  • 33rd best company on yearly revenue yardstick;
  • 2nd best company on the yardstick of return on equity.
These aren’t the first honours received by Montepuez Ruby Mining in recent years. In 2015 and 2016, MRM was recognised as the biggest the tax-payer in the Cabo Delgado Province and, in 2016, as the biggest overall exporter, after being the second biggest mining exporter in 2015. This significant contribution to the national economy, as well as numerous local community projects in the areas of livelihoods, health and education, demonstrate Gemfields’ commitment to having a positive lasting impact.
