The show is considered the premier showcase for quality stones, pearls and raw materials in the region, hosting up to 2,000 exhibitors and 34,000 buyers. Alongside raising awareness of responsibly sourced emeralds and rubies, Gemfields’ product director Adrian Banks and sales manager Elena Basaglia were interviewed by media to weigh in on the challenges the coloured gemstone industry faces today. The main topics of discussion included sustainability, transparency and responsible supply chain management. This gave the team the opportunity to talk in detail about Gemfields’ transparent approach to auctions, the community projects in Zambia and Mozambique, and the ambition to keep bringing the industry into the light so customers can enjoy coloured gemstones and feel proud of the benefits their purchases bring to communities. Interaction with the dealers at the Hong Kong Show indicated an increasing concern from customers regarding the origins of their gemstones and the impact of their purchase Our stand at the Hong Kong show featured a curated selection of coloured gemstones which highlighted some remarkable emeralds and rubies uncovered from our mines in Zambia and Mozambique.
