Conservation3
Gemfields’ Conservation Gemstones initiative is born out of the desire to help conservation partners preserve what is left of Africa’s great wildernesses and stunning wildlife. By contributing funds from the sale of our exceptionally rare, beautiful and precious gemstones, Gemfields’ conservation partners in its countries of operations benefit from an injection of much-needed income. These essential funds help in the protection of the nature reserves and wildlife, and at the same time support community livelihoods within these remote areas of wilderness. The ruby mining operations of Montepuez Ruby Mining (75% owned by Gemfields) lie outside the borders of the Niassa Reserve, some 120 kilometres to the southeast. The financial support provided by Gemfields and MRM assists livelihood and conservation programmes within the Niassa Reserve where communities and wildlife live together harmoniously in a 42,000 square kilometre reserve, making the Niassa Reserve larger than Switzerland.  For more information, visit www.niassalion.org Video by VP Consulting & DANAT
